Bridge Design & Engineering Services

with YBC Bridge Construction
Included
with each bridge constructed by YBC is our standard design and engineering
services. When choosing this option from YBC, you will receive
complete "turn-key" bridge services.
Some of the details of the services you will receive include, but are
not limited to the following:
- Consultation on all bridge decisions, such as materials,
guiderail design, treatment, location, or specialty additions to your
bridge, such as a bridge cover.

Budgetary
pricing based upon any technical information you provide, such as
site plans, soil borings, elevation views, etc.
- Bridge design with calculations and drawings, sealed
by an engineer licensed and registered in the jurisdiction of the project.
- Potential site visit, depending upon stage, scope and
complexity of project.
Each
of YBC's expert services can also be purchased separately
or combined in the manner best fitting for your project. Below is
a description of just some of our most commonly requested packages of
services outside of bridge construction.
Expert
Consultation on existing structures
Known
as the expert in timber construction, YBC has been called upon to provide
consultation services on existing timber structures. Included
in this package:
- Inspection and recommendations for existing timber structure.
- Production of engineered reports.
- Can be utilized at any stage in a timber bridge project
and/or life span.
Design/Specification/Engineering
Geared
toward architects, engineers and others - YBC provides assistance in
the bid process.
- Properly written, detailed specifications
specific to your project.
- Based upon site information provided by you, such as
topographic views, soil tests, etc.
- All drawings and calculations sealed by an engineer
licensed and registered in the jurisdiction of the project.

Consultation with Design and Engineering Services
A
very popular package for clients still in the early stages of development
- larger, more complex projects can often benefit from YBC being much
more hands on in the initial phases of a project. This
is a package that we customize for each individual client and project.
Below is an example of a recent package one YBC client requested.

Initial
Consultative Meeting
- Onsite
meeting with parties involved with the project in order to define
project specific needs, review each component to the project,
answer questions, define the roles of any parties that will participate
in the process.
- A letter highlighting the
action plan as discussed in the meeting to be copied to all parties
participating.
Research
and Development
- Begin exploration into materials,
constructability, logistical issues, aesthetic requirements, and
interaction with other project components in order to define each
aspect of the scope of work.
- Correspondence may include
delivery of samples, product cut-sheets, component brochures,
and/or conceptual sketches to provide clarity for special designs
or components.
Conceptual
Design
- Identifies
the proposed location of all structures, depict the structure
alignment and standard YBC details.
- Final deliverables include
a copy of the CAD drawing file.
Budgeting
and Preliminary Approval
- An
estimate of project costs will be compiled in the form of a YBC
quotation
Design
- Develop the project layout
that will include plan, profiles, details and materials to be
used in a 24” x 26” format. The plan sets
will include a cover sheet with legend / notes, key sheet / overall
site plan, plan & profile – completed for each individual
structure within the project, details.
- YBC will submit plans, structural
calculations and specifications to the client for input and review
at the 70% stage. The 70% plans should be sufficient, after client's
approval, to submit to agencies for permits. The 70% plans will
be conformed to permit conditions and stipulations prior to being
released as 100% plans.
Engineering
- YBC
will proceed to an in-house review, which will include compilation
of structural calculations to verify all component sizing, configuration
and connections.
- A
professional engineer licensed in the state where the project
is located will seal all drawings and calculations for this project.
Calculations will support YBC designs for sizing of structural
components only and will include piling, framing, decking, guiderail,
and brackets.
- Deliverables for this phase
consists of ten (10) sets of 24” x 26” paper drawings of the plans,
ten (10) sets of calculations and specifications, with a CD-ROM
containing an electronic copy of the CADD drawings and MS Word
formatted documents.
