Epoxy Aggregate Coating

Protect your Bridge Deck from the Harmful Effects of Water and UV Light with an Epoxy Aggregate Coating

Epoxy aggregate coatings have been used on steel and concrete vehicular bridges for many years. YBC recommends our exclusive epoxy aggregate system on all our wooden vehicular bridges. Applied over the existing driving surface, between the curbing of your timber bridge, it provides a skid and water resistant coating. This overlay system acts as a “blanket” for your bridge.

Eliminate the need to repair or replace individual wear deck boards and prevent them from splintering.

With this coating, your vehicular bridge deck is sealed from the harmful effects of water and UV light, which not only reduces maintenance but maximizes the longevity of your bridge. An epoxy aggregate coating will last for 5-10 years in high traffic and corrosive environments. Between reapplications, if touch ups are needed, this coating makes them quick, easy and cost effective. The epoxy aggregate coating virtually eliminates the need to repair or replace individual wear deck boards and will prevent them from splintering when applied on the driving surface of your vehicular bridge .

The application process:

First, the deck surface is sanded to ensure proper adhesion of the epoxy.
Next, our crew applies the first coat of epoxy with rollers onto the driving surface of the bridge.
Then, the stone aggregate is put down from curb to curb on top of the epoxy.

The excess aggregate and debris is brushed/blown off to prepare for second coating.
This is how the deck surface will look after the first coating. As you can see, a second coating will need to be applied to completely cover the deck.
The second coating is now applied as in steps 2 & 3. Our crew applies this coating with squeegees to make sure the deck surface is thoroughly covered and sealed.

YBC’s standard aggregate color is “Black Beauty” which will perfectly compliment our signature black hardware upgrades on your bridge. For a more natural deck look, upgraded colors are available.

The finished look:

Kishwaukee Medical Center
DeKalb, IL
This 60’ freespan vehicular bridge was built for the Kishwaukee Medical Hospital in Illinois. In order to reduce the maintenance needed on this heavily trafficked bridge, the epoxy aggregate coating was applied to the deck. The hospital can be confident that their new bridge will require the least maintenance possible.
Rockledge Apartment Complex
Marietta, GA
188’ long vehicular bridge with pedestrian section-YBC’s Black Beauty aggregate was applied to the driving deck of this bridge and a sand aggregate was applied to the pedestrian section. Because of the steep slope of the bridge, the epoxy aggregate was added to improve traction in wet conditions.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Oak Ridge,TN
On this 110’ pedestrian bridge a gray epoxy aggregate coating was applied to the deck. Pedestrians are can now safely cross this bridge without the need to worry about slipping and falling or getting splinters in their feet.
Rockledge Apartment Complex-
Pedestrian Section

Marietta, GA
This picture is of the pedestrian section of the vehicular bridge shown above. On this particular section of the bridge, a sand aggregate used with the epoxy. Because of the slope of this bridge, the owners wanted to ensure the safety of their pedestrians as well as drivers.
