To make your bridge look like this…

When it comes time to update your timber bridge, you want to work with a company you can trust, a company with over 100 years of industry experience and thousands of bridges in the ground. York Bridge Concepts is the company you can count on to bring your bridge back to life. Our timber vehicular bridges are constructed properly with high grade materials and superior craftsmanship with longevity and maintenance in mind. We can refurbish your worn out timber vehicular, cart or pedestrian bridge and have it looking like new again.

Because no two bridges are the same, our timber bridge refurbishment process has two steps. The first step deals with the experts at YBC getting to know your bridge and what needs to be done in order to properly refurbish it. One of our Project Managers will come out to your site and do an inspection on your existing bridge. See our bridge inspection page for more information on this step

Once the inspection is completed and it is determined what needs to be done to bring your bridge up to date, YBC will present you with an Inspection Report and will provide you with a quote on the repairs that are needed to bring your bridge up to YBC’s standards.

If you have a bridge that was not built correctly from the start or hasn’t been maintained over the years, it may start to look like the bridges above and eventually need to be refurbished. To prevent the premature need for refurbishment and to maximize the life of your timber bridge, maintenance is essential.

York Bridge Concepts’ recommended maintenance includes, but is not limited to:

  • Bolts/Nails/Screws: Must be tightened 1-3 months after installation and again at 1 year after installation. Following the initial requirements, bolts/nails/screws must be checked and adjusted (if needed) biannually.

  • Erosion Control: If erosion control is needed, a stone riprap is recommended. Typically it is applied in the front of the retaining walls and abutments at each end of the bridge and around piling supporting a freespan section or at the edges of creeks/rivers.

  • Epoxy Aggregate: The use of an epoxy aggregate coating can eliminate the need to replace or repair individual deck boards and extend the life of your bridge. Applying this coating will prevent splintering of the wood and provide a slip resistant surface. The epoxy aggregate coating is applied to the deck of the bridge, between the rails and/or curbs.

  • Sealant: The application of a UV-protectant sealant on all surfaces exposed to UV rays, excluding the deck surface. Sealant is to be applied on the visible surfaces of the guiderail, curbing, outside surface of outermost stringer and pedestrian deck. YBC has approved the use of climate-appropriate products, which must be applied in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

  • Water Exposure: Water exposure is to be limited as far as can be controlled by Owner. Ensure irrigation is not repeatedly directed onto a bridge surface.

  • Deck Maintenance: The deck surface must be kept free of slip/trip hazards due to cupping, splits, gaps, splinters or excessive smooth surfaces.
