HS25-44 Bridges

Heavy-duty infrastructure requires bridge systems engineered to safely support demanding vehicle loads while maintaining long-term durability and exceptional architectural appeal. For projects serving commercial traffic, municipal roadways, industrial facilities, emergency vehicles, and high-volume residential developments, HS25-44 bridge design provides additional structural capacity beyond traditional HS20-44 loading.

At York Bridge Concepts, we specialize in designing and constructing custom HS25-44 timber bridges for municipalities, developers, engineers, industrial facilities, resorts, master-planned communities, and private developments. Through our integrated Design-Engineer-Build™ methodology and proprietary Deck-Level Construction™ process, every bridge is engineered specifically for its site, anticipated traffic, and long-term performance requirements.

Since 1985, York Bridge Concepts has designed and built more than 9,000 custom bridges throughout North America, including heavy-duty vehicular bridges engineered for demanding AASHTO loading requirements. (ybc.com

What Is HS25-44?

HS25-44 is an AASHTO bridge design loading standard representing a design truck with a 45-ton gross vehicle weight (GVW). It was developed as a heavier loading standard than HS20-44 to address roadways expected to accommodate larger commercial vehicles and increased traffic demands.

An HS25-44 bridge is commonly considered for projects that require:

  • Increased safety margins
  • Heavy service vehicles
  • Municipal fleet access
  • Commercial deliveries
  • Fire and emergency vehicle access
  • Utility vehicles
  • Industrial operations
  • Long-term infrastructure resilience

Every York Bridge Concepts bridge is engineered according to the specific loading requirements established for each project.

Why Specify HS25-44?

As developments grow and traffic demands increase, higher bridge load capacities help ensure infrastructure remains functional for decades.

An HS25-44 bridge may be appropriate when accommodating:

  • Fire apparatus
  • Waste collection vehicles
  • Concrete trucks
  • Delivery vehicles
  • Utility service trucks
  • Maintenance equipment
  • Municipal fleet vehicles
  • Future traffic growth

Designing for heavier loading today can reduce the need for future structural upgrades.

Custom Engineering for Every Project

No two bridge projects are identical.

York Bridge Concepts evaluates:

  • Traffic volumes
  • Vehicle types
  • Site topography
  • Soil conditions
  • Hydrology
  • Span requirements
  • Environmental constraints
  • Long-term maintenance objectives

Rather than offering standard bridge systems, every structure is custom engineered to meet project-specific structural and architectural goals.

Deck-Level Construction™ Protects Sensitive Sites

Many HS25-44 bridge projects involve wetlands, rivers, floodplains, and environmentally sensitive landscapes.

York Bridge Concepts’ proprietary Deck-Level Construction™ methodology allows construction to progress from the completed bridge deck itself rather than requiring extensive heavy equipment beneath the structure.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced wetland disturbance
  • Protection of native vegetation
  • Reduced soil compaction
  • Preservation of waterways
  • Cleaner construction sites
  • Improved environmental stewardship

This innovative construction method helps simplify construction while protecting valuable natural resources.

Mandalay Private Residence Vehicular Bridge – Florida

This project presented many challenges, but YBC came prepared. Preserving the estuary with its delicate sea bed, sea grasses, and protected mangroves was paramount and the reason Ferreira Construction Group brought YBC into the project. For York Bridge Concepts' this is where we shine. Using YBC's Deck-Level Construction, we removed the dilapidated crossing structure and built a vehicular timber bridge that not only can handle the harsh saltwater environment but do so with elegance.
